Uruguay Legalizes Marijuana Trade
On the 10th of December, Uruguay’s Senate gave final congressional approval for the regulation of the cultivation, distribution, and consumption of marijuana during a session in its capital city, Montevideo. The vote was 16 for and 13 against in the Upper Chamber, with the governing Broad Front majority of leftist parties uniting in favor for the legislation.
The small South American nation became the world’s first national marketplace for legal marijuana, a groundbreaking social experiment that will have the government oversee its production and monitor its monthly purchases.
