TIME Person of the Year 2013: Who’s in it and why?

The TIME Person of the Year is someone who has had the greatest impact on the world in the calendar year. This person may not necessarily have had a positive impact. The following 10 finalists will be judged on the magnitude of their actions in 2013.

The death toll in Syria rose above 100,000 this year, due to the continuous fighting between the rebels and the Syrian government.
